Inspired by the Black Power movement, the Rasta movement delivers a spiritual message over a rhythmical background.
After Jamaica’s independence, Mento, Jazz R&B and Calypso mix to form the infernal Ska. However it was too fast; the tempo slowed and Ska gave birth to Rocksteady.
After the visit from Ethiopia’s Emperor, the Rastafarian movement appeared and penetrated the ghetto, accompanied by Black Power’s ideology and influenced by soul. Reggae stems from this base and promotes love and war against Babylon.
This simple message conquered audiences from wealthy countries and reggae became one of the most subversive, spiritual and influent musical genre of the XXth century.
