Nigeria
The anti corruption voice of the 1960’s is played with a wild, free tempo, from the traditional rhythms.
After independence the country is torn apart. Fela Kuti, young musician coming from a wealthy family, seizes the Ghanaian highlife and with Yoruba, influenced jazz and funk, gives birth to a new genre: Afrobeat.
Fela sings in pidgin and sends a political message, which aims at changing the social system in Nigeria, to give more strength to the people. The irresistible rhythms combine past and present.
